Blog >> API Version 1.3 for Increased Backup Performance

The myRepono Backup API has been updated with numerous enhancements to improve the API's compatibility, backup performance, and reliability.

New Features & Changes
  • mysqldump backup routine now splits mysqldump backups into packets for easy compression, encryption and transfer.
  • Backup encryption algorithm has been updated to improve encryption speeds by up to 5 times.
  • Backup file processing has been revised to improve the reliability of backups of large files (in excess of 1GB).
  • Revised file indexing algorithm which drastically increases the quantity of files which the API can index if your server has limited system resources.
  • Support for usage of the split and csplit command-line tools to enable for the manipulation of files over 2GB on 32-Bit systems which do not allow PHP to open files which are over 2GB in size.
  • FTP backups re-introduced for transfer of files over 2GB on 32-bit systems, where both split and csplit are not supported.
  • Support for CURL Extension Emulation Library added enabling use of API when PHP CURL library is not available.
  • New API debugging function which will shortly be incorporated to aid trouble-shooting during the API installation process.
  • Configuration has been updated so the API can self-configure and auto-detect compatibility with features like the mysqldump, split and csplit command-line tools.
  • New configuration options to enable/disable usage of PHP exec() and chmod() functions.
  • API now uses a /data/ directory within API directory for all data storage.

It is recommended that all users update their API to version 1.3 using either the manual or automated API installation tools. Updating your API is not required, the previous versions of the API will continue to be supported until further notice.
